On May 4, 2023, Brussels hosted an economic forum organized by the European Commission.

Investment and legal company S&Yu was represented at the forum by the director of the company Yulia Matyushkina.

Global tensions and limited resources: creating a new competitive model for Europe is the main theme of the forum.

How can we create a new competitive model for Europe in the face of global tensions and limited resources? This issue was discussed at the Brussels Economic Forum.

The issue of protecting jobs from scientific and technological progress and innovations also became at the center of the forum's debates. Statesmen and experts noted that over the past year, the European economy has rapidly switched to digital technologies, artificial intelligence has become a reality, and computers have learned to outperform people in solving some cognitive tasks.

At the Brussels Forum, it was noted that in the era of digital and green transition, state intervention in the energy sector is acceptable:

“I think that the regulation of energy prices is a key factor in increasing competitiveness. We must keep them as low as possible in order to successfully compete at the world level. As for the process of introducing digital technologies, which can no longer be stopped, we need a legal framework that provides a European approach to digitalization, protecting European rights and values. We need to make sure that digitalization is acceptable to our societies and sustainable in the medium and long term,” says Nadia Calvinho, Minister in the Socialist Government of Spain.

Speakers pointed out that governments should invest more in education and training to help people adjust to a changing labor market. The forum participants called for stimulating investment by easing the rules on public debt and budget deficits.

The Brussels Economic Forum (BEF) is the largest annual economic event of the European Commission. For more than 20 years, it has brought together senior European and international politicians, academics, civil society and business leaders to identify key issues and discuss policy priorities for the European economy.
