Kernel, one of the largest agricultural holdings in Ukraine, plans to build a new transshipment terminal "Development Reni Terminal" in the port of Reni on the Danube by the end of 2023, thereby increasing the volume of exports of goods to 600,000 tons per year.
According to the Interfax-Ukraine agency, the terminal will be built on a plot of land leased by the holding for 49 years, said Head of the Communications Department of Kernel Yekaterina Spivakova.
"To implement the project from scratch, it is planned to attract about $10 million of its own funds. Partnership options are also being considered," Spivakova said.
It is assumed that upon completion of construction, the capacity of one-time storage of grain and granulated meal in the operational silos of the new terminal will be 9.6 thousand square meters. m, sunflower oil in tanks - up to 6000 tons. The design capacity of the reception is up to 2 thousand tons per day of grain and meal. In other words, this is equivalent to unloading about 100 trucks and 50 tankers a day. The capacity of transporting grain or meal to river transport will be up to 8,000 tons per day, sunflower oil - up to 4,000 tons per day. The front part loaded at the same time will be designed for two river vessels.
It is expected that with the stable operation of the Black Sea Grain Corridor, assets on the Danube will help Kernel increase its annual export volume by 600,000 tons.
Meanwhile, Spivakova recalls that in 2022, Kernel acquired and launched the Danube Prom Agro terminal in the port of Reni in emergency mode.
As previously reported, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov predicted that by the end of 2023, cargo transshipment in the Danube ports will increase from 16 million tons to 20 million tons. In 2022, it will triple the pre-war level.
Kernel is a major producer and exporter of sunflower oil, engaged in the production, export and sale of sunflower oil, crop production, export of food crops, provision of grain storage and transshipment services at elevators and port terminals.
The largest co-owner of Kernel through Namsen Ltd. there is Andrey Verevsky with a share of 39.97%. Cascade Investment Fund (Cayman Islands), whose beneficiary is the ex-deputy of Ukraine Vitaliy Khomutynnik, owns 4.99% of the shares of the agricultural holding.
